Today, I went to Bay Tree Lake State Park with my dad and the dogs. There are trails running through the park that have very thick and loose beach sand. 4 wheel drive is very helpful. There is also evidence of others getting stuck in the loose sand. The trails loop through the game land and some end at the lake, others stop randomly with a mix of swamp, grass, and trees.

I used a GPS to get me to the park. It is an undeveloped state park, meaning there are no buildings or bathrooms on the whole property. Just type the address in and turn at the post

Bay Tree Lake State Park
Hwy 41
Elizabethtown, NC 28337

Here is a picture of the entrance to the park as seen from the road. There is no sign, just a post and some grass. It is free to enter the park. I only saw three other cars the whole day I was there. There was a black YJ, a suv, and a truck of some sort.
Here is a picture of the trails that run through the park.

There are five large mud holes on the park. The first one on this picture does not count. There are four, five counting the small one, all in a row down this trail.

Here is a picture of the fifth hole. This one was a little deeper than the rest. No pic of me in it. I got nervous and winched out before the pictures. haha

This is the second hole of the four in a row. The first time I went through I did not get stuck. On second run, I fell into a rut and had to winch out. You can see the truck in the background. He looked to be stock except for a flowmaster. He did not follow me through the holes. =D
Almost out of the hole

The lake was very warm. It had a 50 yard beach, about 7-10 yards wide, with nice sand to park on. The lake is also very shallow. If you have a snorkel, you could drive at least 100 yards into the lake.

Over all, I think this would be a fun place to drive. The dogs had a really great time to.
